Ty Turns 8 and Baptism

Ty had been looking forward to turning 8 for months.  He had been anxiously learning and baptism and learned the covenants that he'd make.  I got to go with him to his interview with Bishop Wuerch.  He was nervous, but gave great answers to all the questions.

We were in Utah at Mike & Maggie's house around Ty's birthday.  Maggie hung up a Happy Birthday sign in the kitchen.  Ty was anxious to open his presents before 9:30 church and got ready for church really fast.
Kate bought Ty a journal and CTR tie-tack with her own money.  Ty also got a set of "big" scriptures and a case, John Stockton book, Lego City, and scout book.

He was extra lucky to have his baptism be on his birthday.  Grandma and Grandpa Judi gave him $20.  Grandma and Grandpa Cox & Emmalee gave him a hymnbook with his name on it.  Melinda & family gave him a lego set.

Lissa and Aubrey, Alex and Gareth went to church with us.   Grandma and Grandpa Judi came too.  The kids got to go to primary with their cousins.  Ty told his class that it was his birthday and he was going to get baptized in the river after church.

After church we met at Mike and Maggie's house for Ty's baptism service.
Grandma and Grandpa Judi, Grandpa Cox and Emmalee (Grandma wasn't feeling well and had to stay home), Melinda and her boys (Norm was flying to China), Mike and Maggie & their kids and Lissa and her three kids were all there for the baptism.

We set up extra chairs in the family room.  And Uncle Mike conducted since he's in bishopric in his ward.

After Kate's talk on baptism we all walked through the backyard and the field to the Weber River.  There were a few men fishing (visiting from Texas).  Grandpa Judi went down before we started and talked to them to see if it was ok if we did a baptism in their fishing hole.

The baptism went well.  Ty said that the water was kind of cold.  It was hot outside, so he didn't mind.  Everyone else was wishing they were wet too while they were walking back to the house.

Ty said that he felt "cold and happy" during his baptism.  He wasn't really nervous and was excited.

While Ty and Dave were changing into dry clothes Grandma Judi led the music while everyone sang primary songs a capella.  It was pretty neat to listen too.  Everyone was very reverent, not like our usual "Uncle Mike's house" behavior.

Uncle Mike gave the talk about the Holy Ghost.  He shared some experiences of when he felt the Holy Ghost help him.  Once when he was at college and was tempted to skip church and another time on his mission.

Bobcat Bolt

The kids got to run in their annual Bobcat Bolt fundraiser at school on Friday.  They ran around the field behind the school.

Kate ran 7 laps.  Jack ran 10.  Ty ran 6.  I ran a few laps with each kid while I left Nick with a friend at the starting line.  Towards the end of the afternoon he caught on that I kept leaving him and he would cry if I set him down.  I had to walk with Kate instead of run.

Riding the Bus 2014

Ty wanted to ride the bus to school on the second day of school.  I offered to give him a ride, but he turned me down.

Back to School 2014

Today was the first day back to school.  Kate and Jack were up early ready to go.  Ty took his time waking up.  He likes his sleep.  After some stretching in bed, a warm shower and some breakfast, he was ready for school.
Ty's teacher is Mrs. Schembri.  Jack had her for kindergarten and we loved her!  Today was only an orientation.  So Ty got to go out to the playground and learn the rules and play while I listened to Mrs. Schembri talk and then fill out paper work.  We had two more hours to kill when we were done before the kids got out, so Ty said that he wanted to go home and drink a caprisun and then play animal jam on the computer.  (He passed up biking at the skate park and a doughnut!)

Jack is excited about his 3rd grade teacher, Mr. Neil.  There are only 15 kids in his class, which is great!  Jack said that Mr. Neil jumps a lot when he's excited and they're already earning a pizza party.

Kate loves her 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Hawkins.  She's exciting about switching classes and tomorrow she'll find out who she shares a locker with.

Ty Makes Apples!

Ty loves eating dried apples.  He has helped me make them a few time this fall.  He's done most of it by himself.

Ty and Jack love fruit leather!  I puree a couple of can of pears and dehydrate it and they fight over it until it's gone.  (They won't touch fresh pears.)   Last time I made them each their own tray and they picked the pears off it and devoured it with no fighting.

Ty's Soccer Fall Season

Ty got to be on his own soccer team this fall.  His friend, Ian, was on his team, Gold Rush, too.

Ty was pretty into most of the games.  He scored lots of goals.  Sometimes the other coaches made the playing field really small and played lots of kids at once, which made it harder for Ty to play.  Ty got a big bump on his eye from his fellow player's head, another kid grabbed him by the neck, but he kept on playing.

The YMCA had a problem with the jerseys.  They ordered one late and it didn't come, so Ty got a white jersey.  He also got to wear a green jersey for his last game.

Nick liked the games too, probably because I fed him dinner during them.

Ty's First Day of Preschool

Ty has been waiting to be able to go to preschool for a while, probably a year or so.  We did our own preschool at home last year, just Ty and I, since I was pregnant and then had a newborn during the school year.

This year Ty gets to be a peer student in the early intervention preschool program at Kate and Jack's school.  Kate and Jack were also peers in the preschool.  Kate went when she was four and Jack went when he was three.  It's nice to have all three kids at one school.

Ty will go Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons from 1:00 - 3:30.  I pick all the kids up from school together.

Ty couldn't wait for it to be time to go to school today.  He's been waiting for school to start since last week when Kate and Jack went back to school.

Before we left for the school, we took pictures under the tree in the front yard.
And we took a few more pictures in the parking lot.

After school, Ty told me that he didn't like the timer (the clean up timer).  There was a little mix up with his snack and another boy's snack, but tomorrow I'll label his snack and it will be fine.  When Kate and Jack were talking about how much they loved preschool, then Ty perked up and acted more excited.  Hopefully he loves it tomorrow.

It was kind of strange having only Nick at home and he took a nap.  It was really quiet.

Topper Soccer School 2013

The kids did a soccer camp with the high school boy's soccer team.  Kate and Jack have done it every summer, but this year Ty was old enough to do it too.  He loved it!

They played a game where they dribble the ball like animals.

Ty and Jack each had their own personal "coach" - a high school boy assigned to them.  They loved the attention!
The boys told Jack that he's the new "Messi"
Kate did great playing with all boys!
