First Day of School 2013

School started on August 14th this year (one day sooner than it started last year).  Kate and Jack were excited to go back to school and were ready to go bright and early.

Jack is in Mrs. Haagenstad's 2nd grade class (along with 23 other kids).

Kate is in Mrs. Reyer's 4th grade class.

First Day of School

School started on August 15th this year (my b-day, which means that it started a week or two too soon).  Kate and Jack were up bright and early and ready to go by 7:15.

Kate is in 3rd grade in Mrs. Carr's class (and Kate LOVES pandas and her panda shirt).
Jack is in 1st grade in Mrs. Shelton's class (and Jack loves his new basketball shorts).

Ty didn't have a very good first day of school.  He spent the morning at the doctor's office and pharmacy.  We found out that he had strep, so he spent a few days resting on the couch with a fever.

Last Day of School

Here are Jack and Kate after school on their last day of kindergarten and second grade.
(Kate begged us to let her wear this dress that someone gave us that she's only used as a dressup.  It turns out that her dance teacher, Miss Valerie made it for one of her girls lots of years ago...)

Here they are on the first day of school last August...

Jack's End of Year Kindergarten Presentation

On the last day of school, Jack's class put on a end of year presentation.  They sang songs and shared things that they'd made.
 Singing...
They shared what they'd written about what they learned in kindergarten.
And they told jokes.  Jack and Emma (one of his favorite kindergarten friends) told this one... Emma -- knock knock.  Jack -- who's there?  Emma -- Colin.  Jack -- Colin, who?  Emma -- Colin the doctor, I feel sick.
Jack had a fabulous teacher, Mrs. Schembri.  He had a great kindergarten year!  Now he's a first grader...

Jack writes!

When Jack started kindergarten, he didn't really like to write or draw or do anything that involved paper, crayons, markers or a pencil.

Since being in kindergarten for a few months now, his love of writing has taken off.  He loves writing and sounding out words and drawing pictures.  He has two excellent teachers, Mrs. Schembri and Mrs. Church that make his classroom a very positive environment.  He loves going to school and loves writing and reading.

Last week when Grandma and Grandpa Judi were visiting us, we let the kids come home from school early to be with them.  After an hour or so, Jack said, "I want to go to school and be with my school-mates."

The other evening, Jack sat down at the bar and said he was going to write down all the words that he could spell, so then I took his picture.
